UPDATE: First Casualty of Ferguson Riots: DeAndre Joshua, 20

The Ferguson riots have claimed its first casualty. DeAndre Joshua, 20, was shot dead last night just yards from where Michael Brown was killed. Residents claim that Joshua was shot while in his car, although police have yet to confirm any details. His grandmother added that he was a graduate of Beaumont High School and had been working at Wal-Mart.

UPDATE – November 26, 2014:

The motive of of DeAndre Joshua’s death remains unknown, though details of cause of death were brought to light via CNN:

Police Chief Jon Belmar told the St. Louis Post-Dispatch newspaper that he isn’t discounting the possibility that the death was linked to the violence that ravaged Ferguson on Monday night. Deandre Joshua, 20, was found Monday night behind the wheel of a Pontiac in a parking lot, just down the street from Canfield Green Apartments where Michael Brown was killed by Officer Darren Wilson. Joshua had been shot in the head, police said. An accelerant was used to light him on fire, but the fire went out on its own, police said. He had burns to his arm, fingers and both legs.

Though police haven’t confirmed one way or the other, speculation leads me to believe that DeAndre Joshua was lit aflame after being shot in the head and that the accelerant poured on his extremities  simply gave out before it got a chance to catch onto the vehicle.

According to several tweets, Joshua was also friends with Dorian Johnson, who was  very close to Michael Brown and witness to the Brown shooting. Read more at the Gateway Pundit. It is still unknown whether Joshua was one of the three black grand jury witnesses in the Michael Brown trial.

St. Louis County Police Chief Jon Belmar confirmed that the case is being investigated as a homicide.
